16. Leaving Home Alliance(2/2)
Merlin laughed, and he used the posture of drinking to hide his expression. The young man in front of him was so keen that he still had time to pay attention to these things in such a nervous situation.
"have!"
Bruce picked up another piece of bread, and after filling his stomach, his mind began to work, he said:
"I haven't seen it in Gotham, but I've at least heard of it."
"You may not know, but my ancestors were the first Puritans to arrive on the American continent. In the letters they left behind, they recorded the magic of Indian wizards. Moreover, my housekeeper Afu also witnessed the magic of voodoo on the battlefield. There is magic in this world. What's more, your name is Merlin, how can I not associate it too much?"
"Okay, it seems that you are a good person."
Merlin raised his head, stretched out his hand, and took off the sunglasses he had been wearing. Those abnormal eyes made Bruce subconsciously straighten his body. He looked at Merlin, his eyes full of surprise.
"So, are you really a wizard?"
"I'm not!"
Merlin said:
"I'm just a poor man who is plagued by bad luck. You'd better not ask too much about this, Bruce, I'm for your own good. But speaking of it, I'm more interested in the notes left by your ancestors. Have they said, where can I find those wizards who can use magic?"
A hint of desire flashed in Merlin's eyes. This was almost the first time he had truly come into contact with someone who knew the supernatural powers. He had been disappointed for too long, and he was eager to get something useful.
Faced with Merlin's inquiry, Bruce closed his eyes and recalled. He stuffed the bread into his mouth. After more than ten seconds, he replied with some uncertainty:
"My ancestors' records of strange things were interrupted during the Civil War. But I still remember that my great-grandfather wrote a story, which was some stories he experienced when he was traveling the West. It was at the end of the Western era, and in the desert near Texas, he had seen the burning knights riding on horseback."
Bruce said to Merlin:
"My grandfather said it was a disaster caused by God. He also bought a talisman from the locals, which is said to have a strange power. It is the most real supernatural event in the records of my family in recent hundreds of years."
"Texas?"
Merlin nodded. He was not sure what Bruce said was true, but it was a trip. If you had the chance, you could go to the western land to take a look.
He looked at Bruce who was eating silently in front of him, and he felt that the young man who was smaller than him seemed to be hiding many secrets.
He asked:
"Tell me, Bruce. What made a rich young man give up everything and be a homeless guy with a guy like me?"
This question stopped Bruce's eating action, and then he shook his head:
"No, I don't want to say it now."
"That's it."
Merlin was not confused either. He realized that it was not good to just ask strangers so straightforwardly that it was really personal.
He picked up his glass and raised it to Bruce, and he said:
"Anyway, welcome to join my 'Leave Home Alliance', Bruce. In the next period of time, we have to help each other. Let's have a good rest when you have enough. I'll take you on the boat tomorrow."
"If you want to live here for a long time, you must at least know where the bathroom and toilet are, and you must also know how to play hide-and-seek with the crew and not disturb you."
