Chapter 711 East Palace West Palace (3)

Shan He's case is actually very similar to the case of Zhang Wenxiang assassinating the horse that caused a sensation during Cixi's administration. "The Prophet of the Fame" is adapted from this, and I'll popularize it for children's shoes that I don't know.

After the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom was wiped out by Zeng Guofan, Liangjiang urgently needed a neutral governor to go after the aftermath. After all, after Nanjing was defeated, Zeng Guofan submitted a memorial saying that Hong Xiuquan's Heavenly King Palace was not a piece of copper. Who would believe this? Ma Xinyi, who took office, went to investigate the whereabouts of these unknown wealth, also tried to calm people's hearts. At that time, it was a mess. However, as the imperial court's money bag, Cixi did not want to hand it over to the Hunan Army. Ma Xinyi, who had nothing to do with Zeng Guofan, emerged like this. In fact, Cixi had never thought of recovering the money and being able to regain half of the country from Changmao. It was a great thing that everyone celebrated.

The local administrative system of the Qing Dynasty implemented the governor system. At that time, the country was divided into 23 provinces, with one governor in each province, and the highest commander in charge of civil affairs of a province. The governor's power is much greater than that of a governor, but there is no direct affiliation with the governor. Both the governor and the governor directly obey the emperor. The difference is that the governor can manage several provinces and focus on military affairs. The governor only cares about one province and focuses on civil affairs.

The Governor of Liangjiang, with the official title of Governor of Liangjiang and other places, was the first minister of military affairs, food and wages, Caojiang, and governed the affairs of Nanhe. He was the highest-ranking minister of the Qing Dynasty. In the early Qing Dynasty, the Governor of Jiangnan and Jiangxi provinces was in charge of military and civil affairs, and thus received the title of Governor of Liangjiang. Later, because Jiangnan Province has many people, it was divided into Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, and was named the first character of Jiangning, Suzhou, Anqing and Huizhou in the territory. Since then, the Governor of Liangjiang has been in charge of Jiangxi, Anhui, and Jiangsu provinces, and the Governor's Office in northern Jiangsu, which belongs to the Jiangning Administration and the Governor's Office.

Liangjiang has always been a place of cultural heritage and a place of wealth for the court. "The national wealth is all out of Liangjiang". The governor of Liangjiang has bounded three provinces, and the main taxes of the Qing Dynasty basically came from the areas under the jurisdiction of the governor of Liangjiang. Therefore, among the eight governors at that time (Zhili, Liangjiang, Shaanxi and Gansu, Fujian and Zhejiang, Huguang, Guangdong and Guangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou), Liangjiang Governor was the most powerful person. Before the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, most of the governors of Liangjiang were held by Manchu nobles and rarely took the Han people's turn. It was not until the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom that the Qing Dynasty had to pay more attention to the Han people, and Zeng Guofan, who made his fortune by the Hunan Army, thought about getting this position for many years.

Ma Xinyi, the newly appointed governor of Liangjiang, was stabbed to death not long after. This was unprecedented in the Qing Dynasty. This incident shocked the entire court and the country at that time. It is a mystery about Ma Xinyi's assassination until now, and there are different opinions. An opera based on this story at that time will be called "Stampering Horse", which once caused a sensation.

Ma Xinyi was from Heze, Shandong. He was on the same list as Li Hongzhang. He was a Jinshi in the 27th year of Daoguang. He had never been appointed as a Hanlin official, nor had he been appointed as a Beijing official. He was distributed to Anhui as a magistrate. The magistrate team, who was born in Jinshi, was named "Tiger Ban", which was the most cruel. Ma Xinyi arrived in the province one day and met with the chief on the second day. On the third day, the vassal yamen was listed and the magistrate of Jianping, who belonged to Guangdezhou. Since then, he has been an official in Anhui, fighting Hongyang and fighting the Nian Army, from county to prefecture, from prefecture to road, and has been to Anhui vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal

Hong Yang was pacified and Ma Xinyi was promoted to the governor of Zhejiang. In December last year, he took over Wu Tang's lack of money and succeeded as the governor of Fujian and Zhejiang. In just half a year, he was transferred to Liangjiang and promoted too quickly, so Empress Dowager Ci'an once said that he was not worth enough. At that time, Ci'an was Cixi, and Ci'an's two palaces were in charge of the government. Later Cixi was poisoned to death by Cixi, so the reason was to read Gao Yang's "Hu Xueyan" or "The Complete Biography of Cixi". Both books wrote the reasons, so I won't go into details here.

After taking office, Ma Xinyi trained recruits in the fourth battalion in Jiangning, and stipulated that he would practice twice a day, specializing in foreign guns, carrying cannons, and spears, and proofreading twenty-five per month. The main thing was to see the recruits shooting targets with foreign guns. The location was just before the newly built Governor's Office was completed, and the arrows were temporarily borrowed from the west of the Jiangning Prefecture Office. He looked at the "accurate head" of the recruits using foreign guns. Fortunately, he went out of the west side of the office, which was the arrows. He walked and walked away without any trouble, so he went to the school to shoot in person every time.

July 25th is another period of review, and it is raining, and it is delayed by one day. The next morning, as usual, after the routine, Ma Xinyi walked back to the office as usual. Following the guards, Yu Jisan, deputy general of the Central Army, who was in charge of the guards, and Ye Hualong, the Wushu who was sent to the governor, and two or three horsemen. When they approached the side gate, they saw a middle-aged man shouting in the accent of Ma Xinyi's hometown and Shandong Heze: "Master!"

Then he knelt down, held a letter in both hands, and raised it over the top.

Ma Xinyi knew this person and asked at the sight: "You haven't gone back yet?"

"If you go back to the Grand Marshal, you will have enough money. Today I will come to ask the Grand Marshal for help."

"Hasn't you given it twice?" Ma Xinyi looked quite impatient.

"yes--."

Just as the man was stuttering for some reason, someone shouted loudly on the right: "Master-in-law seeks justice!" Then he knelt down. When Ma Xinyi turned around and looked at him, the man suddenly took out a sharp short knife from under his clothes, grabbed Ma Xinyi's arm with his left hand, and handed it up with his right hand, and the knife had been inserted into his right chest.

"It's pierced!" Ma Xinyi shouted, and then fell to the ground. Zhang Wenxiang stabbed Ma Xinyi directly in the vital position. Ma Xinyi was delayed until noon the next day and swallowed.

I heard that Zhang Wenxiang had practiced it. He had practiced the flying knife until he pierced five layers of raw cowhide at the same time, so he would definitely be able to catch up with Xiao Li's flying knife.

As for the reason why Zhang Wenxiang assassinated Ma Xinyi: one is that Ma Xinyi is related to the rebellion of Shaanxi and Gansu; the other is that he is flirting with the righteous and framed friends in times of hardship. Of course, the latter legend is even more sensational, this is a version we have seen from film and television dramas many times later.

The legendary Ma Xinyi was once captured by the Nian Army when he was acting as a magistrate in Hefei, Anhui Province. Zhang Wenxiang was the one who captured him. However, Zhang Wenxiang had a long time to be honest, so he caught Ma Xinyi. Not only did he not report his merits to Zhang Luoxing and others in the Nian Army, he instead added his intentions and introduced two good friends to him, one named Cao Erhu and the other named Shi Jinbiao. The four of them bowed to him, and then quietly let Ma Xinyi go back and told Futai that it was right and then came to pick them up and surrender.

Things went very smoothly. Zhang, Cao and Shi all recruited troops and sent them to the official. The superior appointed Ma Xinyi to select and surrender the crowd and set up two battalions. Because Ma Xinyi was called Kushan, it was called "Shanzi Bing". His three brothers were all "sentence officials". Ma Xinyi started with these two battalions, so he rose to the Anhui Bible Department.

Hong Yang pacified the army and dismissed the army for major events. Shanziying was dismissed. Zhang, Cao and Shi all followed Ma Xinyi to the vassal yamen to work. It is said that Ma Xinyi was already a little despised at this time, as a friend of poverty and humbleness.

Therefore, when Cao Erhu was about to pick up his family, Zhang Wenxiang advised him that he was not as quiet as he was moving, but Cao Erhu refused to listen and took his wife out of his hometown and lived in the vassal yamen. Since he came, he had to visit Mrs. Ma. It happened that Ma Xinyi also came to the upper room. When he saw Cao Erhu's wife, he was shocked and started to engage in it. It was just that his husband could not do whatever he wanted. So Ma Xinyi often sent Cao Erhu on business trips, and every mission was always good to be reaped. Cao Erhu was happy, and Ma Xinyi also got what he could do.

In a short while, the scandal spread very quickly. Zhang Wenxiang had to tell Cao Erhu that he refused to believe it at first, so he went to inquire in secret, and then he realized that it was true and wanted to kill his wife.

Zhang Wenxiang advised him: "You need to kill a rape and kill a wife. Just killing your wife will pay for your life in the law. It is too unrelated to do so. Why do you have a real man who has no wife? You simply send your wife to him and save your friendship."

Cao Erhu thought about it and found an opportunity to show his intentions. Unexpectedly, Ma Xinyi was furious and denounced Cao Erhu insulted the great masters. Cao Erhu came back and told Zhang Wenxiang that Zhang Wenxiang knew that he was about to kill him.

After a while, Cao Erhu was ordered to go on a business trip, and this time he went to Shouzhou, Anhui to lead the military. Zhang Wenxiang was warranting that there would be changes in his trip, so he made an appointment with Jin Biao to escort him. On the way, he was safe and sounded at Zhang Wenxiang's suspicion, and Zhang Wenxiang himself was also happy.

So the next day, Cao Erhu went to the gate of the general of Shouchun Town to go to the office to do business. While waiting for the visit, the officer in the middle of the army took the arrow and brought the horse's hat to capture Cao Erhu, saying that he was bound by bandits. As soon as he got tied up, General Xu Xu pretended to come out and refused to let Cao Erhu argue, and told him: "People Ma asked you to leave, and someone told you to Tong Nian, ready to take the arms and help the bandits. There was already a document coming down. When you arrived, you would immediately use military law. You don't have to say more."

When Cao Erhu was killed, Zhang Wenxiang burst into tears. He told Shi Jinbiao that he must avenge Cao Erhu. Shi Jinbiao looked embarrassed, so Zhang Wenxiang accused him of being "not friends enough" and willing to let things go alone. So after taking Cao Erhu's body and burying it, Zhang and Shi broke up. In this legend, the only truth is that Shi Jinbiao did have someone, and now he is a general in Shanxi.

The legendary Zhang Wenxiang is described as a character in the Records of the Grand Historian "Biography of Assassin". It is said that he used fine steel to create two daggers, quenched with poison. Every night, he practiced the force of stabbing, stacking four or five layers of cowhide, and stabbing them with a dagger. At first, because his wrist was too weak, he could not penetrate through it. In this way, he practiced five layers of cowhide and pierced with one blade. His intention was to assume that the cold winter had a chance to start, and even if Ma Xinyi wore a heavy fur, it would not be difficult to kill him with one knife.

Since he practiced such kung fu, Zhang Wenxiang secretly followed Ma Xinyi for several years. Once he met Chenghuang Mountain in Hangzhou. Because the governor had too many protections, he could not start. Until now, he could do it. Some people also said that Ma Xinyi shouted "It's been pierced!" when he was stabbed, in fact, it was "finding", which means that his enemies were narrow and finally found. Some people said that Ma Xinyi was stabbed, and saw that the murderer was Zhang Wenxiang, and said, "It's you!" Then he ordered his side: "Don't make things difficult for him!"

The second rumor is Ma Xinyi’s “unpleasant relationship with the bandit”.

This statement comes from Zhang Wenxiang's confession. According to Chen Gongmao (his grandfather Chen Jingtu participated in the review of Zhang Wenxiang's inquiry), in the article "The Truth of Zhang Wenxiang's Assassination of Ma Xinyi's Case": Zhang Wenxiang confessed that when he was in the seventh year of Xianfeng, Ma Xinyi lost Luzhou and was captured by him. But at that time he did not know that Ma Xinyi was the prefect of Luzhou, so he released Ma Xinyi and his follower Shi Jinbiao. Shi Jinbiao was grateful to Zhang Wenxiang for his favor for mercy and secretly told him that Ma Xinyi had always been secretly connected with the Hui people's anti-Qing armed forces in Gansu. Later, Zhang Wenxiang saw that Ma Xinyi had "involved with the bandits", but he was still able to rise to the top and be unfair. He decided to eliminate the harm for the court and assassinate him.

When this confession was released, it was incredible and shocking. The interrogation officials looked at each other in shock and couldn't believe it. The collector also stopped writing and did not dare to record it. After Jiangning General Kui Yu found out, he kept shaking his head and called it "absurd". He personally interrogated Zhang Wenxiang, and Zhang Wenxiang only said: "What's wrong with me for the world except for a rebellion of a bandit?"

After being asked anxiously, Zhang Wenxiang simply said, "The general is the master." Kuiyu asked, "Who is the general?" Zhang Wenxiang laughed, "It's General Jiangning." Kuiyu was very embarrassed because of this.

Later, Jin Biao was arrested by the government and brought Jiangning to confront Zhang Wenxiang. Shi Jin Biao tried his best to deny Zhang Wenxiang's confession and said: "Zhang Wenxiang falsely said that Lord Ma had colluded with the bandits. I served Lord Ma for many years. Although his family was Islam, he never saw him interacting with the Muslim people. Now he is a first-rank official, and he dares not follow the Islam. How dare I say that Lord Ma was in disgrace to the bandits? It was really his fault for repaying me."

Faced with Shi Jin Biao's confrontation, Zhang Wenxiang also changed his confession: "When Xiao's consecration, Jin Biao once told Xiao that Lord Ma had colluded with the bandits. It was Xiao's previous cause who saved Shi Jin Biao's life and reported him to help him testify, so that he would slander Lord Ma. Now he confronted Shi Jin Biao, and Xiao didn't dare to cleverly."

Zhang Wenxiang said that Ma Xinyi was "returning bandits" because he intentionally tried to turn Ma Xinyi into the serious crime of colluding with Hui people to rebel. The presiding official was concerned about it and did not dare to ask more questions. However, this confession was too absurd and obviously nonsense. However, in order to protect Ma Xinyi's reputation, Zhang Zhiwan and Kuiyu deliberately concealed it and did not report it to the court. Especially when Zhang Zhiwan and Kuiyu interrogated Jin Biao, only the governor and the censor participated, and the two consecutive trials were not recorded. This was inevitable that there was a suspicion of being more obvious, and the disputes arose from the disputes and false rumors.

Rumors say that Ma Xinyi was Hui people and believed in the *** religion. His father was the leader of Hui people in Heze, Shandong, and he has always maintained a close relationship with Hui kings in Gansu. When Ma Xinyi fought with the Taiping Army and the Nian Army, most of the arms were funded by Hui people, so he made many military achievements and was promoted all the way. Ma Xinyi was grateful to Hui kings and always wanted to get some rewards. Ma Xinyi's personal soldier Xu Yi was originally a subordinate of the Taiping Army King Li Shixian, and was an old acquaintance with Zhang Wenxiang. One day, Zhang Wenxiang met Xu Yi by chance in Hangzhou, and Xu Yi told him

He said: Zhejiang Governor Ma Xinyi was contacting the Hui tribe in Gansu and was going to compete with Hui king in the Central Plains. Zhang Wenxiang was very indignant when he heard this, thinking that Ma Xinyi's betrayal of the Qing Dynasty was a damaging conscience, and scolded on the spot: "I will kill such a rebel minister!" It happened that Ma Xinyi ordered the ban of Xiaobadian, which was illegally operating, and Zhang Wenxiang's Xiaobadian was also among them. Zhang Wenxiang's livelihood was cut off. Thinking of Ma Xinyi's private relationship with the troops and planning to rebel, he decided to assassinate him, one was to eliminate harm to the country, and the other was to vent his anger.
