21. Village

The road from the city is empty along the way. You can also see the remains of the burned cars and the bones that have been dried up by the sun for days. It seems that people have experienced countless dangers in rushing to escape from hell.

The road ahead was blocked tightly by a team of stagnant cars. Wen Renyu looked at the two people in the back seat from the rearview mirror, wanting to ask Lin Mengmeng for her opinion. However, after looking over, she found that Lin Mengmeng was sleeping soundly leaning on the boy's shoulder. She didn't know what she dreamed of, but she even smashed her mouth slightly.

No wonder I was so quiet all the way, I was actually sleeping...

Wen Renyu turned his head helplessly to wake up Lin Mengmeng, but before he could touch her, someone grabbed his wrist. The cattail smiled and moved his gaze from Lin Mengmeng to his body. His empty index finger was raised and pressed on his lips, and then pointed to a path branching out next to him.

The road stretched towards the distance, with neatly planted vegetation on both sides. Fortunately, the plants did not seem to be polluted, and the green branches stretched towards the sun, looking fresh and full of vitality. However, the road seemed to have nothing but plants, no dead bones, and no vehicles.

Wen Renyu was a little strange. It is logical that walking from the main road is the safest. High can lead to the next city, which is a larger and lively city than the city they lived in before. Maybe there will be a gathering place for humans there. If he walks the small road - he has no confidence in his sense of direction. If he has not arrived at the next city before the food and water they brought have been consumed, the two of them might lose their money on the road.

"It's okay, go there." Bai Pangpang, who was held in the cattail, spoke. It comforted him as if he had seen through Wen Renyu's concerns: "You can still get high-ranking people on this road, no problem."

Wen Renyu was silent for a while, sighed heavily and turned the front of the car: "I didn't expect that I would have one day to listen to a ball."

Bai Pangpang:...Do you want to fight?

When Lin Mengmeng woke up in a daze from her sleep, the car was slowly stopping in front of a two-story building. The sky was approaching dusk, and the clouds were dyed brightly golden red by the afterglow of the sun. She squinted her eyes and looked at the house outside through the glass in a daze, and her thoughts were still stuck in that short dream.

The osmanthus tree full of flowers appeared in the dream again. In the rich and sweet fragrance, she saw a door in front of the tree, just like a rabbit hole that Alice fell into, which was only half her height. However, when she came to her senses, she had become smaller than the door. The hand holding the door handle looked chubby, with a small nest of flesh, and the sound could be heard on the other side of the door, as if calling her.

"It's not open yet." Someone said behind her: "You won't be back."

Who is it?

She wanted to turn around, but she couldn't turn her neck anyway.

The petals fell like rain, flooding the door in front of her, and she was thrown out of her dream and returned to reality.

A strange dream, Lin Mengmeng was empty-minded. What's even more strange is that she gradually couldn't remember what she dreamed of, but she just vaguely felt that the sound was very nostalgic.

"Master, are you awake?" The cattail's voice sounded in his ears, so close that it was incredible.

Lin Mengmeng's head suddenly woke up, her body suddenly bounced up, her head hit the roof of the car, and tears instantly emerged from her eyes. "Woo..." She lowered her head and rubbed her head with a tiny, beige petals fell from the top of her head to her knees.

"Sorry, I don't want to scare you," Cattail looked very worried, so he hurried over: "Does it hurt? Does it matter?"

Lin Mengmeng's eyes were filled with tears: "It's okay..." She pinched the petals on her knees and threw a faint fragrance on it. The car windows were obviously closed, and there wouldn't be osmanthus blooming in this season, right? She thought for a while, and after no results, she threw this faint doubt behind her head.

"Get out of the car? Your Highness the Queen?" Wen Renyu knocked on the window from outside and signaled her to get out of the car.

What the hell is His Highness? Lin Mengmeng whispered and opened the car door.

Wen Renyu felt very strange on the way into the village. The village was empty, and there were not even zombies that usually wandered around unconsciously. Although it looked very safe, it revealed strangeness everywhere. It might be that he was too careful. Wen Renyu looked at the courtyard in front of him. Maybe it was because of the end of the world that the whole village had left?

The place they stayed was the best-looking building in the village. It seemed that it had not been built for a long time. The semi-open door was still very colorful. A small vegetable field was opened in one corner of the courtyard, with some seasonal vegetables planted, and the green leaves were coated with a layer of golden brilliance. A shelf was also set up in the corner of the wall, and the green vines climbed up along the rack, with cucumbers slightly longer than their palms.

What is even more gratifying is that there is a cherry tree planted in front of the building. Although a lot of cherries have fallen, there are still plump fruits hanging on the tree, which looks particularly gratifying.

They haven't eaten fruit for a long time. Lin Mengmeng looked at the cherries on the tree and couldn't help swallowing.

"There is water here." Wen Renyu stood by the well and looked down: "It's really a simple structure."

Next - their eyes fell on the closed floor at the same time.

No matter how you look at it, it is just an ordinary farmyard. But I don’t know if a zombie will pop out from inside when you open the door. This makes me feel very scary when I think about it.

The two stared at each other, desperately suggesting that each other go to open the door.

"You are a boy, be brave!"

"To be honest, you are older than me, shouldn't you love me!"

The two had a fierce argument over the serious question of who entered the house first.

"Ah, interrupt it, there seems to be no one in the room." Cattail interrupted their elementary school-style quarrel, poked half of his body out of the open door, and the dazed hair on his head shook twice: "Do you want to come in and take a look?"

"Ah, good..." Lin Mengmeng looked at her cattail with a look of anticipation and responded blankly. She and Wen Renyu looked at each other and walked towards the house together.

As Cat Tail said, there was no one in the living room. There were still some debris on the table, a few small boxes of matches, a lighter, and an exquisite small teapot. Under the table, a broken tea cup was lying quietly on the ground, and there were still dried fine tea leaves on the fragments.

"Is it really okay to rest here..." Wen Renyu frowned and looked at the interior. The doors of the bedrooms on both sides were open, the bed was still messy, the closet was wide open, and there were a few clothes that looked very old-looking inside.

It was as if I had left in a hurry, and a roll of long toilet paper was lying on the ground. A pot of green plants was placed on the windowsill. It seemed that because no one had watered it for a long time, the leaves were wilted and yellow.

The cattail ran down from the upper floor, and the tail made a beautiful arc in the air: "I looked at the roof and it seemed that it was empty here, and I didn't see anyone else."

"Are you sure?" Wen Renyu frowned and asked. It would be too strange to have no zombies in a sense.

"Master, you must trust my reconnaissance ability." Cattail smiled and blinked at Lin Mengmeng mischievously.

Wen Renyu:... Forget it, I'm used to this different treatment.

They really need a place to have a good rest. Since they left the city, they have been rushing on their way. Every day they rest in the wilderness, they can only crouch in the car when they sleep. Sometimes when they stretch their waists, they can hear the crisp sound of their bones.

Lin Mengmeng carried the quilt from the bedroom and spread it on the ground: "Let's sleep together in the living room tonight." There are five quilts left in the bedroom, enough for them to lay a relatively comfortable floor. So it's almost summer now, the temperature is starting to rise, and the night won't feel cold.

"Okay, I'll go and see if there are any foods to eat--" Wen Renyu had long been thinking about the small vegetable garden and cherries outside. He first picked a lot of cherries and threw them into the bucket by the well, and then ran into the field to look around the growing vegetables.

However, Young Master Wenrenyu, who is not diligent in all four bodies, cannot recognize the types of vegetables, so he can only pick a little of all kinds of vegetables with the idea that he will definitely be able to eat here anyway.

"This one looks delicious." He drew water from the well in the yard, put the picked vegetables into the bucket and washed them with cherries, picked up a cucumber that was pulled from the vine and looked at it.

"Ah, that's--"

Before Lin Mengmeng finished speaking, she saw Wen Renyu put the cucumber in her mouth and bit it.

"……Momordica charantia."

As her tail sound fell, the boy's delicate face twisted into a wrinkle ball. He spitted out the bitter gourd in his mouth, rushed into the car and began to look for mineral water frantically.

"Wow, this Yan Yi is really wonderful, but unfortunately the phone is no longer available." Lin Mengmeng's abdomen was sore that she rubbed her stomach, picked up a round and plump cherry from the bucket and stuffed it into her mouth - this time the person with a wrinkled cheek turned into her.

"Yes, it's quite wonderful Yan Yi." Wen Renyu took several sips of water and had not yet eliminated the bitterness in his mouth. Seeing Lin Mengmeng's entangled face laughing without any companionship.

Lin Mengmeng stuffed the candy handed over by the cattail into her mouth with a cold look on her face.

"Damn you are cheating!"

"I don't accept it and I'll just hold it in a brief moment!"

The two of them smacked their lips at the same time, turned their heads and stopped looking at each other.
