Chapter 7: Life as a Farmer(1/2)

In the United States, there are approximately 2 million people engaged in agriculture.

These 2 million people can provide more than 85% of the country's daily agricultural and livestock products.

Corn, soybeans, wheat, milk, and beef all come from major farms and pastures.

Not only can they satisfy most markets within the federal territory, these agricultural and animal husbandry products are also exported to all over the world.

According to this logic, outsiders imagine that American farmers must live a particularly prosperous life and belong to the wealthy class.

But the real situation is that many of these farmers are actually just as hard as the rural life in China.

Most of the farmers and their families go there every day at five or six o'clock in the morning.

The entire family's workforce has to get up and start working.

Usually older children need to help their parents feed cattle, sheep, chickens and ducks, while their father has to check and refuel the tractor, and their mother is responsible for breakfast.

After breakfast, the children go to school, while the father drives machinery in the fields to plow, sow, spray, irrigate, harvest, etc., while the mother has to milk the cows constantly.

If it is not the busy farming season, parents still have to go to work.

After school, children continue to help their parents feed the poultry.

After dinner, my father did some cleaning and inspection work, while my mother milked the cows for the second time.

Such a busy day sometimes lasts until late at night, and the cycle continues every day.

This is the daily life of an ordinary American farmer's family.

Most of the land is less than 300 acres, and family-run farmers live this kind of life.

It is not as easy and free as outsiders imagine, it is highly mechanized and does not require manpower.

To put it simply, farmers who rely on the land cannot do without the arduous export of labor.

But in comparison, American farmers have a relatively complete agricultural machinery system, as well as well-developed chemical fertilizer and irrigation systems, and their production efficiency is very high.

But it doesn't matter how high it is.

Because a farmer in China usually takes care of four to five acres of land without machinery.

The United States, on the other hand, has various agricultural machinery and a complete system.

An American farmer has to take care of about fifty acres of land.

Of course, in terms of income, it is the American side that beats the Chinese farmers.

After all, the land area per capita is incomparable.

However, none of the above has anything to do with Abel.

Although he is a Texan from a farmer's family.

But his family's farm had already left the scope of family management several generations ago.

Smith Farms was a registered company more than fifty years ago.

This company has been operating for more than fifty years, so Smith Farm is actually land managed by "Smith Agricultural Company".

To put it simply, his family can be considered a large farmer.

It's not as good as those giants with tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of acres, but it's still much better than 99% of American farmers.

This can be seen from the fact that Smith Farm can employ more than fifty farmers.

Of course, bigness is bigness, and corporatization is corporatization.

Abel also had to do some farm work when he was young.

And his parents are also good at working on the farm.

Ms. Emily Smith, even a multiple-time winner of the Tarrant County Wool Shaving Contest

It's just that they don't live as hard as ordinary farm families.

So when Abel came back, his father, Alexander Smith.

In the farm kennel, I am building a new kennel with a few migrant workers.

There are more than 180 dogs at Smith Farm.

There are so many dogs, most of them are herding dogs.

Under normal circumstances,

A bred sheepdog or cattle dog.

It can take care of about 30-40 sheep, or about 20 cattle.

Together with the cowboys, about 100 adult shepherd dogs can take care of 3,000-4,000 cattle and sheep.

Smith Farm has more than 180 dogs, and except for some small dogs, most of them are large dogs.

That's because the kennels at Smith Farm are not only for personal use but also for sale.

He also participates in various dog competitions throughout Texas every year.

Occasionally you can win a prize.

Throughout Tarrant County, Smith Kennels is famous.

The nearby farms are willing to come here to buy dogs.

Dog culture is very popular in Texas, and almost every household has a dog.

Here, dogs are tools most of the time.

A large number of ranchers and farmers in Texas need them to herd their cattle and look after their homes.

but....

Texas has a dog meat festival!

Texans love dogs both alive and mature.

Secondly, of the 50 states in the United States, eating dog meat is legal in 44 states.

There are dog meat festivals in 13 states.

The most famous of them are Kansas and Texas.

"Tighten the board. Hey, what about you, David? The screw you drove is loose!"

"You can't do this. This kind of dog kennel will freeze my little darlings to death in the winter!"

"And you, Johnson. You put the board on backwards. The white side is on the outside and the black side is on the inside! Like us, they like it to be dark when they sleep! You idiot!"

"Here, take this board. Use it to build the roof."

"Idiot, hurry up, tighten it up here."

"..."

kennel,

While supervising the work,

I will also hand over a tool conveniently,

Or Alexander Smith handing over a board.

He laughed and cursed at the workers and farmers building the kennels.

Most of the time, the attitude is bad and harsh.

It won’t work otherwise,

If there is no one to supervise, or the supervisor has a softer attitude.

These bastards really dare to mess with you.

On the farm, Alexander always looked like this.

When you are generous, you are generous; when you are stingy, you are stingy.

When working, he is extremely strict.

There is even the image of a farmer who will beat someone if he is not satisfied with it.

Who are these Texas farmers? Generally, those with the highest academic qualifications have only completed public high school.

Many have not even attended public high schools.

Most of them have almost never left Texas in their entire lives, and many have never even been to major Texas cities such as Dallas, Houston, and Austin.

Faced with such low-class white people,

If you are polite and polite, you are simply playing the piano to a cow.

Only by being simple and rough, even a little cruel, can you make them work obediently for you.

This is why Maga King’s Twitter has always been very straightforward.

If the words were a little more complicated, Maga King’s audience wouldn’t be able to understand them at all!!
