Chapter Thirteen - The Undead
…………
"What do you think of that guy?"
The two of them were silent along the way. Jaina carefully monitored Nathanos's every move and couldn't help but ask him questions.
The person walking in front did not look back at him, but simply said flatly: "You should know people like you better than I do."
"You mean that person is also a mage?"
"And he also possesses amazing power and magic you've never seen before."
Jaina nodded. She already knew this well in Dalaran. She also tried to persuade Antonidas, but her mentor didn't seem to pay much attention to it.
"It seems that I haven't taken any action on my mission so far. If my mentor knew about it, he would definitely accuse me of coming for an outing."
They walked for a while in silence, and then Nathanos said to her: "King Terenas just focused more on the orc problem, but that doesn't mean he ignored the plague problem.
." He stared straight ahead - still didn't say where we were going next? Jaina decided to try again.
"So, you have a clue?"
"It wasn't there just now, but it was after the prophet appeared."
"What? You doubt him?"
"No." Nathanos shook his head, "Of course I don't doubt him. I just made an assumption. That person obviously didn't want us to get involved in this matter. He hoped that we could turn around and go back. But if we don't
What? Does the fact that we keep moving forward mean that we can find something? Something that the prophet didn't want us to see?"
"Something? What thing?" Jaina lowered her head and pondered.
"The end of this road is the important town of Lordaeron - Andorhal, a food supply place. It is also a transportation hub connecting the capital, Hearthglen, and Stratholme. I think I might be able to investigate something there."
"I don't like crowded places, but I am willing to believe you, after all, I have no other choice now." Jaina smiled.
Now their mission was clear - to go to Andorhal and see if there were any other clues along the way. The two Quel'dorei priests they met on the road also joined them, perhaps because they sensed that a strange disease was coming.
The land was raging, and they came out to provide medical treatment as much as they could. The two also provided more direct help - they took Nathanos and Jaina to a cylindrical grain silo.
"Look at this." Jaina said, looking up at the lonely barn on the hill. It seemed a bit deserted, with the broken door hanging open and it was pitch black inside.
"This place should have been abandoned, but what happened to the ground around it?" She knelt on the ground, reached out and grabbed a handful of dry soil and withered grass. After careful inspection, the young mage found a long-dead
The insect has six legs curled up on its abdomen. When the breeze blows, it immediately turns into a puff of black smoke.
"The land around this barn is dying, Nathanos."
"Shh!"
Jaina raised her head, wondering why Nathanos wanted to keep her quiet, but found that Nathanos's eyes had been staring at the barn. Then, he motioned the two elf priests to retreat. Jaina also stood up.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
Nathanos once again made a quiet gesture, carefully took off the bow and arrow on his body, then aimed at the gap in the barn door, and let go the next second - there was a sound of heavy objects hitting the ground in the barn, which scared Jaina.
A jump.
"Is there anyone?"
"No, something is wrong." Nathanos said. The sound should be the sound of some creature falling to the ground, but why didn't the opponent make any painful sound when it was hit by an arrow and fell?
When the two were helpless facing the barn, there was a loud "boom" and the door was pushed open and flew straight towards Nathanos and Jaina!
"Be careful!" An unexpected situation occurred. Before the frightened expression on Jaina's face took shape, Nathanos stood in front of her. The night blade in his hand swept forward, splitting the door panel in two, but the expansion of the training
There is something behind the gap.
At that moment, Nathanos could hardly believe his eyes. The dry skin, the hollowed eye sockets, the peeling skin and the rotten flesh with thick pulp. He couldn't even ask in his mind in time what this was.
Something, because the other person was stretching out his bloody hands to strangle his neck. Nathanos did not give him such a chance. With his other hand, he grabbed the other person's head with its mouth wide open, and then prepared to press it to the ground.
But what everyone didn't expect was that the next second Nathanos exerted force, the oozing head was crushed like an orange. The brains were sprinkled on Nathanos's body along with dark red blood, and he just in time
Only by turning his head sideways did he save half of his face.
"What is this?" he roared angrily. The disgusting and putrid smell hit him. He wanted to cover his mouth and nose with his hands or sleeves, but these two things were no better than his face.
"Nathanos!" Jaina shouted.
"Don't come near me!" he responded, and now he even disliked himself. "Jaina, go see what this is. I'll go to the river to clean it and I'll be back soon."
The female mage stood three meters away from him and nodded, but obviously Nathanos gave her a difficult problem. Although Jaina is always full of curiosity about unknown things, she is a girl after all, and she is unbearable when facing the ground.
She was still a little scared when she saw the corpse. In addition to her, the other two elf priests were also frightened by what just happened and were completely unable to help.
"Okay, I'll do it myself!"
She did not touch the body, but took out a handkerchief from her bag and covered her mouth and nose, then squatted down and observed carefully for a while until Nathanos came back.
"How is it going?"
Jaina frowned, "This... seems to be an undead creature."
"I have seen the undead." Nathanos replied, "Death knights appeared during the Second Orc War, but they are much stronger than this guy. This is at most... a living dead."
"I've heard of the Death Knight, just like you said." Jaina raised her head and found that Nathanos's leather armor was gone and he was only wearing a gray-black shirt. She was curious about why Nathanos
Don't shiver, it's winter now, isn't he cold?
"You suspect it's an orc?"
"No." She shook her head and stood up, "I think it's not the orcs. I've read the orcs' literature. They had a history of resurrecting skeletons during the first war, and then they created the death knight.
, I think their understanding of necromancy should become more and more complete, rather than regressing like this." Jaina spoke like she was reciting academic literature, which was very convincing.
"You are really smart, Jaina." Nathanos praised her, then squatted down to inspect the body. He first raised the withered hand - it was rotten, and there was even a piece of flesh hanging from the skin on his little finger.
The bones were exposed. Then he continued to check other places.
"I have a bad feeling." Nathanos said in a low voice.
"What bad premonition?"
