Chapter 7 - Terror Totem

…………

"Another body." Marla pointed at the coast, and she wanted to thank the ocean currents in recent days for sending them clues. It seemed that even the waves and sea breezes on the beach were welcoming them.

On the way here, whenever Marla encounters the remains of a sea snake creature, she will carefully check it, for fear of missing any clues.

"Damn it, it was destroyed, I can't be sure when he died." Marla said with some irritation.

The Dark Ranger can judge the death time from the growth of maggots, but the corpse in front of him is different than before. There is a clear serrated mark of flesh and blood cut, which is left after death. Maggots of different sizes are mixed together, which also blurs the clues that should have.

Carrila walked over and observed for a while and gave her own conclusion: "This seems to be something that has only been left recently. The meat that was taken away is the thickest piece, with no amount of internal organs."

"Do you think it was done by the pirates?"

"Pirates are indeed cruel and have acts of blaspheming corpses, but they are only limited to hanging the corpses on the mast and drying them. Pirates will not do such things,"

"Marla! Kalila!" At this time, Cleya's voice came, and the two dark rangers were temporarily distracted to see the dark ranger. "Look at you." Cleya pointed above the depths of the dust swamp.

Marla saw nothing at first, until she walked to Cleya and the sun no longer appeared in their sight. Marla narrowed her eyes as she guided her. A wisp of light smoke was slowly turning towards the horizon.

"Interesting, I thought there were no living people in the dust swamp." Carrila also noticed that according to the habits of the living, it is indeed lunch time now.

"It's impossible that it's a tribe. Hellscream has no garrison here, and even the village of Fern was moved away. Could it be the survivor who Theramore had no time to leave?"

Cleya's guess is unreasonable. If it were really Theramore people, they came from the alliance... Marra didn't want to think so, but it was indeed possible. "Let's go over and see what it is." The Dark Ranger made a judgment, and then ran towards the smoke of cooking fire.

"Shouldn't we be more careful?" Carrila hurriedly chased after him, "If the other party has a large number of people, we won't get any advantage."

"Just make sure it's them." Marla responded.

The destination was finally an abandoned post tower at the fork in the north. It was indeed the outpost of Theramore, but the huge gap at the top of the tower indicated that it had been completely destroyed and abandoned, and the human traces discovered by the Dark Rangers were not made by humans.

Marra held the bow and arrow in her hand, poked her head out and looked at her, then she turned her head to look at her two partners with disappointed eyes. "It's the terrifying totem tauren."

Carrira and Cleya were both disappointed and were in vain again!

“Are they a lot of people?”

"No, they seem to be resting in the human sentry tower, and they have no weapons. Most of them are women and children, and only a few are soldiers."

"Then let's leave quickly and don't waste time." Kalila said and shrank back, but Marla suddenly made a gesture to stop her.

"No, it doesn't seem that bad, I find that the cookware they use seems to be the kind used by the Union Army."

"What a clue? This was once the territory of the alliance, and maybe it might be that it was located here."

"But we have to confirm it." Marla turned around and looked at Kalila, hoping that the latter would be more patient.

Carrila gritted her teeth and closed her eyes, Veronala's orders and warnings still appeared in front of her. She said, "Then let's control them now and defeat the taurens with weapons first."

The three of them nodded to each other, and then their own advantages slowly approached the fear totem during rest.

This raid was swift and gentle, and Cleya first advanced to the north and turned a corner along the edge of the chassis. It has to be said that the chassis was built very cleverly, and it was finely avoided the road and could control the forks. It was also close enough to the Tamsui Lake so that people living here would not have no water to drink.

There are also dug trenches and twisted leather tents inside the sentry tower. A few dried fish and a piece of sternum hung on a shelf that looked just built.

It seems like this is a trivial lunch for people in the Tartar.

Kalila shot the shoulder of a Tauren who was in charge of alert with a precise and quick poison arrow. He may have temporarily lost his ability to move, but he did not suffer any major damage. As Marla described, the Tauren hidden here is not a well-trained warrior, only a few have some resistance, but they were all knocked down by the Dark Ranger trio in a short while.

Marla and the others walked up to them. There were only three of them, but they seemed to be surrounding the remaining terrifying totem. The people of the Tartar quickly retreated into the wardrobe and formed a warning circle.

"Please stay calm. As long as we answer our questions, I promise no one will be hurt." Marla's voice controlling herself tried not to sound so cold, but she failed, and death changed her control of her emotions.

The endless scream of fear made the dark ranger frown. She saw a tauren shaman in a shabby robe standing in front of his frightened family. The tauren mother and a boy were obviously scared. There was also a baby crying loudly in his mother's arms. On the other side, there was a warrior who seemed to have been vicissitudes leaning against the wall, and the wounds on his legs had not even healed. Everyone here had their eyes wide open, and their cheeks were deeply dented due to hunger.

Marla looked at the refugees in front of her and was silent for a while. She watched quietly as the refugees gradually changed from screaming to whispering to each other. Kalila stood beside her and reminded her that they didn't have much time.

There may be clues we want here. The Dark Ranger closed his eyes and seemed to take a deep breath.

"Forgotten!" At this time, a tauren shaman with a skeleton bead walked out with heavy steps. It was obvious that he must have been a tall and energetic tauren shaman before, but whether it was the cause of the war or the problem of time, his spine was obviously bent. When he was speaking, his chin was covered with a long braid and shook gently. "Is this the difference between you and the Scourge? Only innocent refugees, only homeless wounded, and only hungry children, they are just down-and-outs in countless wars!"

"So, are you the leader here?" Marla asked calmly, her eyes were like an eagle, staring at the tauren in front of her. In just a moment, she found something wrong. There was a dog skin plaster stuck to the man's arm, which was a human thing.

"Yes, I'm speaking for the people here." The Taurus muttered, "If I have to stand alone, I won't escape."

"We have no intention of making blood here." Marla expressed kindness to the Taurus elder sincerely and firmly. "As long as you are willing to tell us what we want to know, we will leave. I promise that no one of you will be harmed."

Hearing these words, the refugees gathered in the camp exchanged their eyes in shock, and they whispered, some with hope on their faces, while others remained skeptical.

When Marla talked to the representative of the Taurus, Kalila was attracted by the barbecue on a fire rack. The meat was dripping oil, which looked mouth-watering, but there was another strange stench and an indescribable smell. When she thought of the gap in the Naga corpse they found on the coast, the nausea and disgusting feeling almost made Kalila vomit. Fortunately, there was no food in her stomach, and as the forgotten person, she didn't need to eat to maintain her strength. But she still felt unbelievable, and she scolded the Taurus in her heart for being completely contrary to ethics. Naga is a smart creature.

"We want to know whose cookware belongs to." Marla pointed to a silver-white pot with alliance markings, which seemed to be cooking something wild vegetables or something.

The representative of the Taurus Shaman expressed confusion about her behavior, and so were the others, but the Dark Ranger still noticed that several insiders looked at a Taurus mother and her two children at the same time. They squeezed aside, their bodies trembled slightly, and they didn't even dare to look around, looking extremely nervous.

She is the one she is looking for!

"Your eyes are honest." Marla's voice sounded subtle, and only Cleia and the Taurus could hear her word and sentence clearly. "I have to talk to this mother in private." She walked to the front of the crowd and wanted the mother to come out.

"Wait a minute." The shaman quickly stopped her, and a cold chill shaved his skin. "She is just a mother of two children. Don't make things difficult for them."

Marra paused, unable to believe that this tauren actually prayed for mercy to a dead soul. They were indeed not the Scourge, but they were only rational in principle to the living and would not attack the living for no reason. But the reason was like an excuse, and you could find one at random.

"As long as she tells me the answer, I promise not to hurt anyone here."

"I can answer your doubts." This voice attracted everyone's attention. The wounded Taurus warrior.

Marla looked at him in surprise and said, "What's your name?"

"His name is Gogro." The Taurus Shaman answered for him.

"Very good, tell me all you know." Marla said coldly. She could feel threatened. Even though the tauren was injured, his physique and thick arms were still capable of attacking.

Gao Grossed, glanced at the distance unnaturally, and his knees trembling slightly due to injuries made him look difficult to stand. "I think you are curious about not that pot, but the origin of that pot, right?"

Marra's stiff face finally squeezed out a fleeting smile. "You are smart, good, I do want to know the answer to this question."

"Then let's make a deal. You put the people here to eat first, and I'll tell you the truth."

"make a deal."

Kalila watched a tauren child chewing the meat cut from Naga. She was no longer as nauseous as before. Her disgust was transferred from the meat itself to the carnivore.

Do these people know what they are doing? The Dark Ranger completely doesn't understand what the happy expression on the child's face is. Maybe he doesn't know the origin of the food in his mouth, or maybe he knows that after all, the horror totem is the most wild and aggressive branch of the Taurus clan, and his living habits are even more primitive.

"About a week ago, while I was hunting in the swamp, I heard the sound of artillery fire coming from the other side of the sea." Gaogecom sat cross-legged on the ground, his leg injury made him feel uncomfortable. Marra and Cleya listened quietly to his description. "I ran over to investigate the situation and saw several Alliance ships attacking Naga on Okaz Island."

Hearing the four words "Alliance Ship", Carrila also focused her attention.

"I shouted out excitedly. You know, the terrifying totem is the enemy of the tribe, but it has a certain degree of cooperation with the alliance."

Marla nodded. I heard that the Alliance once united the terror totem against the tribe, but it seemed that Theramore was not involved.

"Since the fall of Theramore, we have become the target of public criticism in the dust swamp, the ogres in the Fern Wall Village launched a fierce attack on us and drove us out of our territory." The Taurus warrior continued, but the shaman lowered his head, as if recalling this dark past.

"So, when I saw the Alliance ships, I was very happy that I thought they were back to seize this territory, and the terrifying totem could rebuild a partnership with them."

"Then you went to find these people later?" Cleya asked. This was a stupid question. In fact, Marla was about to ask this, because according to logic, Gogro would definitely reach an agreement with the league, but he had scars on his body, which was clearly indicating that the result of this matter was very bad.

The Taurus nodded. "I found three sailors in old alliance uniforms on the coast, staying in the tent camp, celebrating victory. I walked slowly over and they were surprised by our appearance. They were polite to me at first, but were very surprised when they heard the alliance I proposed..."

Marla blinked, her eyes fixed on Gao Luoke's arms and tattooed body, thinking.

"They changed their faces immediately and attacked me." Gao Luoke became excited. The Taurus Shaman put his hand on his shoulder to help him stabilize his emotions.

"I defeated them, but I was seriously injured. The pot was their stuff, and of course some wine and canned jerky food and so on, which I took away, but we had eaten all the food."

"I have one last question, how do you make sure you are seeing the Alliance ship?"

"Because their boats row the Union's sail flag."
