Chapter Thirty-Six - The Break
…………
Merriel wanted to know what the meaning of being called was. He felt that Nathanos had to hand him over some tasks, but often what was left to the end would not be a good job.
However, Nathanos kept telling others what to do, and had no intention of paying attention to him at all.
Judging from his deployment, Merriel could not see the meaning of being summoned.
"I have a question, sir." Verona said, "It can be seen that this operation is bound to be won, but why are we the only ones. There are some Forsaken leaders, such as Prefest and Orisos, who seem to be not assigned a task, and I don't think they want to be idle."
Nathanos was silent for a moment. He saw similar confusion on the faces of others. He didn't want to reveal it too early. "No one will be idle." He said. "Because the Forgotten's actions are not just Orgrimmar."
His only hand reached to Belmont, "a map of the Eastern Kingdom."
The leader of the Dark Blade received two guards, and Nathanos knew them, Sansa and Malcolm. The two held two corners of the map at each other and placed the entire map smoothly in front of Nathanos.
"It's time." His finger pointed to a piece of area sewn with red cloth on the north side of the East Road Kingdom.
"Lothalen?"
"The Blood Crusader should have disappeared long ago." The Withered Man's index finger hit the map, as if he was playing the death knell of the Blood Crusader's demise. He looked serious. "Take Lordaeron back."
You must be crazy! Merriel thought to himself. He tapped the deck with his staff, and the sound of collision finally prevented himself from being ignored.
"How long has it been since you've been to Lordaeron, Nathanos?"
Merell asked without any concealment. His reaction was completely expected by the Withered One. "The Blood Crusader revived that land." The mage approached him with an excited expression. "There is still a lot of clean land that can be sown and grazed."
"Note your voice, old man." Audhoksion reminded him. "Even I know how crazy the Crusaders are."
"Then have they attacked our territory in the Eastern Kingdoms on a large scale?" Merriel retorted.
To answer his question, Nathanos turned his head to Veronara, and most of the Dark Rangers were stationed in Shadow Tooth Castle, and knew the situation of Silver Pine Forest best.
Veronara nodded. "They did not declare war on us, but I don't think it was because they were willing to live in harmony with us. Among the territory of our eastern kingdom, Shadow Tooth Castle once belonged to Gilness, and Ultralank was only supervised by Lordaeron. In the final analysis, these two places do not belong to Lordaeron."
Merriel seemed extremely shocked. Judging from Veronara's meaning, she seemed to support attacking Lordaeron.
For a moment, the only person present who might have the same view as him stood opposite him. Merriel immediately gritted his teeth again. Veronara had never seen his face so hard.
"Lordalun is harder to capture than Orgrimmar." said the necromancer, gritting his teeth, "You once lived there, Nathanos. You should also know how high the walls of Lordalun are. After the Blood Crusaders regained their homes, they built the city into a military fortress."
"Crusaders are covered with battlements. Cascading planes and artillery can instantly bomb any enemy trying to approach the walls. Griffons will patrol the sky and intercept harassment from the air. Eight of them will use holy light. Only the main gate of Lordaeron is a plain, and other places are surrounded by forests, which are easy to defend and difficult to attack."
The Withering Ones ascended the Twilight Morning and had not said a word to Merriel. Now this situation has changed. "You are right, Merriel. Capturing Lordaeron on the front will cause us a heavy loss. In order to deal with Garrosh, we will also have to divide some of the troops and siege machinery."
"Then you still want..." The mage didn't understand why he didn't give up on this idea since he knew the consequences.
"So, I never thought of taking that city by brute force. Arrogance is still the weakness of the Crusaders. We can find ways to catch them off guard."
Anger churned in Merriel's mind. He knew that his emotions had already broken through the critical point of his usual dissatisfaction with Nathanos, but he didn't care at all. "Do you just want to destroy everything? Isn't the catastrophe that Lordaeron has experienced enough?"
His anger was out of control. The map in the hands of the two undead guards suddenly caught fire. Merriel really hoped that this fire would make the Withered plan completely fail.
"Merill?" Veronara and Belmont looked at him in horror at the same time.
Several guards leaned over with weapons and surrounded the mage.
Alchoksion originally wanted to teach him a lesson, but was stopped by Nathanos.
"Let him finish his words." The withered voice was like the sea surface at this moment, unable to feel any emotions, but how many dangerous undercurrents are hidden under the calm appearance? It is impossible to judge.
Merell pursed his lips? He closed his eyes and thought for a while. He began to think about what Nathanos was the purpose of taking Lordaeron and used it as a breakthrough to control his ambitions. "The people who pay the price are not just the Forgotten Ones, Nathanos. Every time a crusade falls, they may fill a pair of widows. Invade a city? How many families will be destroyed? You are not Garrosh Hellscream, why do you provoke an evil war?"
Nathanos's red eyes were staring at him. Even in the face of his anger? The withered eyes remained calm.
"Merill? I'm still glad you came. But you're obviously tired of custodying my job."
"Although Eggwen has been dead for several years," said Merriel. "But I will not forget her advice to me. I will help you? Help the Forgotten, but the same? I will also keep an eye on you? Avoid you becoming the second Alsace."
"So you think I'm following the old path of Arthas now." Nathanos suddenly said such words, which made Merriel and everyone present silent.
"I originally had a very important task to you? Merriel. If you can complete it, the Forgotten Ones can avoid the sacrifice of at least thousands of people? The war can end faster, and the fewer dead people will die... But what are you now? After hearing the content of the task? I think you will refuse without hesitation. Let's just forget it."
The two were only two meters apart. No one blinked.
"You go? The Forgotten thanks for your help over the years."
Merriel's expression fell down after hearing this. "You should kill me, otherwise I will find a way to stop you."
