Chapter 59 - Wine in a Glass
…………
In the kingdom of the dead, the quiet atmosphere should be the main theme. Sasarien once firmly believed that the dead had endless energy, but they would not waste their time on speaking, because the strange voice would make them hate themselves. The only thing the Death Knight felt glad that he had a complete appearance. Some undead creatures, such as those he saw in the hotel, were missing arms and legs.
But the Forgotten Hotel was a little too lively. Crying sounds came one after another. Sassarian frowned when he was brought here. Compared to Stormwind, he had been to hotels or taverns many times. But whenever he walked into a place where people could spend time, he would disturb the store's business and make the cheerful atmosphere feel cold. People were not willing to drink and chat with a Death Knight.
This situation is slightly different in the territory of the Forgotten. When Sasarien arrived, no one paid attention to him. People were busy raising their glasses. Only occasionally a few people looked at him and then there was no other attention. Sasarien smiled, thinking that only living people could attract their attention.
"New?" Rennie, the hotel owner, is a woman. Apart from the dark spots on her skin, her face is pretty good. "What do you want to drink?"
Sasarian had been away from the Black Front fortress for a day, and the water had not yet entered. Even the dead man didn't like the feeling of dry lips. However, when the Death Knight thought of selling wine made by the dead man, he gave up the idea of consumption. It was not that he disliked him very much, but was afraid that something strange would be added to the Forgotten wine.
"I'll just sit for a while, thank you."
"Don't worry, our wines are all bought from the black market, and they are all wines made by living people."
Sasarien glanced at Rennie's eyes and confirmed that she was not lying. "Then... what wine do you have?"
The boss pointed to the wine list hanging against the wall of the service desk. There were fifteen kinds of wines on it - more dazzling than those sold in the Dwarf Tavern in Ironford. Some names Sasarien had never even heard of, but he could also tell if it was a good wine, because the price was just behind the name.
"I don't know what the wine you have here is."
Renni smiled and replied, "You haven't been to Pandaria, have you? The wine on this list comes from that misty continent."
There are also other places. The Death Knight recognized several familiar wines and temporarily dispelled his doubts. "Then give me a glass of Winter Spring Fire Wine."
The female undead shouted to the kitchen, "A glass of winter spring fire wine." She gave Sasarien a smile, and then went to receive the next guest.
She must have done this before her death. The Death Knight thought.
The light at the hotel door was blocked again, and Sassarian did not look back, but his ears told him that the atmosphere in the store was gradually becoming silence. A steady sound of footsteps came from the floor.
It happened that the Winter Spring Fire Wine was brought to the Death Knight, and Rennie's face was also filled with surprise and fear.
The new guy sat next to Sasarien, staring at the hanging wine list with red hot eyes.
"Are you Nathanos?" Sasarien asked subconsciously when he saw those eyes, but this person was different from the wither in his memory.
Nathanos smiled and said to the hotel owner: "Give me a drink."
The air in the room made people feel like a thunderstorm was gathering above their heads. Renni didn't know what to do for a moment, and she didn't come back to her senses until Nathanos turned his gaze to her face.
“What do you… need?”
"What is 'Money-Happy Wine'?" Nathanos asked Rennie at the wine list, "Is it brewed by the money on Pandalia?"
"It's just a name, master," Rennie said, "that's a kind of liquor."
Nathanos let out a laugh sound similar to the "Ha" and "Hmm". "Give me a glass of Dalaran red wine," Nathanos said, "I have never tasted the wine of the Magic City."
Renee ran to the kitchen to pour wine. It was not until then that Sasarien discovered that all the people who had just drunk here had left.
"Then, are you coming on behalf of the Knights of the Black Front, or your Alliance King?" asked the Withering One.
The Death Knight put a gadget on the platform, a skeleton-shaped badge, indicating that his identity was the ambassador of the Black Knights. "The Great Lord Moglani heard that you were planning to attack Lordaeron." He said, "He was very concerned about the next moves of the Forgotten."
"So send you to monitor me?" Nathanos asked.
The Death Knight sent a sip of Winter Springs into his throat, the smell he drank during Northrend. "You can drive me away, and then more Black Front Knights come to watch you."
"It's interesting," said Nathanos. "What is Moglani going to do? Do you want to stop me?"
"The existence value of the Black Front Knight is to fight against the Scourge and the Lich King," Sasarian pointed out, adding: "Of course, we must also prevent the birth of another Lich King."
The wither laughed.
Renee was paced back and forth in the kitchen, her eyes rolling anxiously.
"It's really damn." She kept shaking her head, "Dalaran Red Wine? There's nothing in the store!"
"Have you never entered the store?" the chef asked.
Renee glared at him. "Do you know how expensive that kind of wine is? It's hard to buy on the black market. I used to buy a bottle, but there were no customers to consume it. This kind of wine - too expensive! Now it's listed on the wine list just to make people's eyes shine."
The problem is that there are really some customers now, and they are the most powerful people in the Forgotten. Rennie did not expect that one day the Withered people would visit her store.
"The Withering Lord said he had never tasted this kind of wine, so I would find a few wines to synthesize them!" Renee said boldly.
The chef widened his eyes, "This is a deception. Why don't you tell the Withering Master directly?" he said.
"Man, why do you do this? Are we going to let the owner down? And if others know the secrets on the wine list, we will be ridiculed." Rennie promised, "Just satisfy the owner, he can't taste it."
The chef could not be convinced by this reason, and he could only watch Rennie take out a clean goblet from the window, aiming the mouth of the sour ale to make a drink, then the winter light ale, and then the binary wine.
The mixed wine with a natural and deep gem red color rose to the mouth of the glass. Rennie thought it was good, and that was the case with the red wine, but realized that she would serve Nathanos next, and a wave of fear poured over her whole body.
Her expression was natural! She said to herself in her heart.
Nathanos's voice filled with the tone of the living man resounded through the hotel. "The Crusaders have something they have no ability to hold."
The voice of the Death Knight was like the snow outside of Ultratown. "When I came, I didn't see a siege car, nor an army that was gathering."
"Yes," Nathanos looked at the wine that Renee put in front of him with expressionless expression. "But those who truly understand strategy should learn to hide the army of infinite in the shadows."
He picked up the goblet with two fingers and took a sip. Rennie immediately saw his brow frowning. His eyes twitched. A smile appeared on his lips. Then his gaze left the glass like a ghost and landed on Rennie.
The hotel owner was not breathing at all, but Nathanos's eyes made her feel suffocated. The chef's words just now were vivid in his mind: This is a deception. Rennie doesn't know if Nathanos has the same idea at this moment.
The Lord of Forgotten did not immediately vent his anger. This was what Rennie felt the most difficult. She tried hard to make up an excuse, but fortunately, the voice of the Death Knight bought her time to think.
"It sounds like you're ready," Sasarian asked.
Nathanos nodded slowly. His sincere attitude surprised the Death Knight. The Withering One admitted so easily that he did not mean to treat military operations as a secret.
"I also want to witness the power of the Forgotten One."
"I am not a bard, I will tell others what I know and see." Sasarien snorted.
"Unless someone orders you, right?"
The Death Knight remained silent and closed his eyes slightly. In the Black Knights, he obeyed Moglani; in the Alliance, he was also a soldier of Varian. As a soldier, even if he died, he would take obeying orders as his duty. Therefore, Nathanos was right.
"How is your sister?"
The sudden change in topic was something Sasarien did not expect. The Death Knight recalled his first meeting with Nathanos after his death. In Northrend, at Naxanael, the floating fortress of the Scourge, they had faced the Lich King together and rescued Leresa from the Prince of Blood.
"She...is very good, we've met a few times."
Nathanos looked curiously at the Death Knight who was in deep thought. In his memory, Leresa was one of the few humans willing to accept their loved ones after death, and was a brave woman. Sasarien should be happy about this, but the Withered One only saw the loss in his eyes.
What happened later?
"Then you are so lucky that not every deceased has the opportunity to reunite with his relatives during his lifetime."
Sasarian swallowed, and his anger was released. He crushed the wine glass tightly in his hand, making a crisp sound like crushing bones. The shredded slag that shone down like sand.
Renni was shocked when she stood beside her.
"It seems that you didn't get along well later." Nathanos said the fact that anyone could see.
"Not blamed her," Sasarien said. "She has a new life. I don't want to bother her anymore."
The wither turned his sight and did not ask what Liresa's "new life" refers to, which is not worth understanding. What is important is that Liresa's new life cannot tolerate Sasarien, and the girl made a choice in the end.
"Are you used to life without family?"
"Only war can temporarily make me forget that I have a sister."
"So you are here, do you want to participate in my war? I welcome it anytime." Nathanos shook his glass. Rennie had a little hope in his eyes. Nathanos saw that it was a hopeful expression, but this hope was as fragile as a young bird falling from a bird's nest. He would not drink the things in the cup again.
Sasarien shook his head in disappointment. "The Crusaders are still enemies of the Black Knights, and the Great Lord Moglani doesn't mind you destroying them. But as I said at the beginning, you are unprepared, and even the furnace of the blacksmith shop is cold."
The wither sneered: "Have you ever drunk the Dalaran red wine?"
The chill surged across Rennie's body.
Sasarien glanced at it, then his eyes were fixed on Rennie. His eyebrows tightened. "What?"
"Have you ever drunk that kind of wine?"
The Death Knight shook his head.
"I have never drunk Dalaran's wine, either." The Wither continued, a dull sound swept through the broken glass on the table like a cold wind. "So when this glass of wine is placed in front of me, I can't tell by the taste whether it is the wine I want."
"Ha." Sasarien laughed, "So what? As long as she decides that this is the wine you want..." The Death Knight pointed to the trembling Rennie. "You can only accept it. Unless you go to Dalaran in person, or find someone who has drunk that kind of wine to taste the things in the cup, but I think you shouldn't have that leisure."
"There is another way, that is, I can tell the ingredients of the ginseng wine here," said Nathanos.
“You don’t look like a wine tasting master.”
"Neither is the Crusader."
Sasarian turned his head in surprise and faced the Withered.
"What did you say?"
"Just like this glass of wine, I brought it to the Crusaders, they could not see what was inside. The more curious it was, the more they wanted to know the secrets in the glass, and they would taste it in sip. Until they finished their last sip, whether they were sure the authenticity of the wine was true or not, it was meaningless, because the evidence had been drunk." After that, he drank the remaining wine in the glass, and the stimulation caused him to frown for a long time.
Renni listened carefully to Nathanos's words, and could no longer tell whether he was condemning himself or discussing military affairs with the Death Knight.
"So that's it." Sasarien nodded, "You want to lure the bloody crusaders out and draw them into the trap you have prepared for a long time. By the time they realize it, it's too late."
"Do you think it's possible?" The Withered wanted to know how Sassarian would react to his words.
The Death Knight did not give any comments, drank all the wine in his glass, got up and left the hotel.
Renni knew that now the Withering One had time to deal with her problem.
"Have you ever done something similar?" said Nathanos.
The hotel owner quickly shook his head and waved his hand: "No, absolutely not!"
"I think so, otherwise someone would have stood up to vent his dissatisfaction, but I didn't hear the complaint of this hotel." Nathanos snorted.
Renee struggled to excuse himself with those prepared excuses and justifications, but the master didn't seem to want to hear it. He could give her a hard blow and listen to her screams. If this was a punishment, it would be a better result.
