Chapter 50 - Obedience
…………
As night fell, the tribe's Red Dragon Knights began to turn back, and they needed to let their mounts rest. But the devastation left behind had already made many people feel desperate.
A team of elves came to the alliance's garrison.
Sylvanas immediately rushed over when he saw the visitor.
"elder sister!"
Aurelia caught her, and the two female elf hugged each other. "I feel relieved when I see you are fine."
"Parents and the others, and Winleza?" Sylvanas asked hurriedly. Aurelia sighed and shook her head. "I haven't heard from them yet." Sylvanas then noticed that there were tears on Aurelia's face.
Turayan was very happy to see Aurelia coming back and was about to go up and talk. A sharp scream above his head stopped him, and a pair of wings flapped down. He and Kadega hurriedly bowed their heads and dodged. The descending creature was obviously much smaller than the dragon, and was covered with feathers.
"Sorry, boy." said Kudland Wildhammer, who and Scarey landed in front of them, and the horses were stomping their hooves uneasily because they were frightened. "We did our best, and the griffon knights had never fought with the dragon."
"No need to apologize, Kudland." Turayan said: "If we weren't there, we would have lost more."
Kudran touched his beard, and Turayan's words made him feel a little relieved, but the frustration was lingering. From today on, he dared not say that the Griffin Knight is the overlord of the air again.
"Aleria, are you okay?" Turayan asked with concern.
The female elf smiled with difficulty. She couldn't be fine, especially in her heart. The flames of the red dragon made her feel painful and self-blame.
An elf walked towards them with great strides. He was covered in stained armor. It was obvious that he was passing by the fire. He hung a long sword beside him, and a dark green cloak was floating behind him. Brown eyes were looking at Tulayan.
"Lothama Theron!" Aurelia avoided Tulayan's question and introduced the new elves, "He is one of our best rangers." Then she looked at Sylvanas, who should not know her yet. "This is my sister, Sylvanas Wind Walker. This is General Tulayan of the Knights of the Silver Hands and the adjutant of Marshal Lothar. And this is the great wizard of Dalaran, Kadega." Aurelia introduced to each other. Tulayan nodded, and Lothama gave them in the same way to show equal respect.
"Most of our soldiers survived this purgatory," Lothama said to them directly, "but we couldn't stop the fire. Although we escaped, our family was still trapped inside." His hands tightly held the hilt of his sword.
"But now we don't have time to think about this," he said. "We must do our best to save our people as soon as possible. This also means destroying the forces that threaten this forest first."
"Terinas, King Lordaeron, had sent us a message to us, hoping we would join the alliance," said Sylvanas, looking up at Tulayan, "but our king decided to give you only a symbolic response." Her twinkle eyes looked a little disappointed, "Although Aurelia volunteered to take on the responsibility of helping you." She became serious again, "But when these trolls and orcs invaded our homes, our elders realized their mistakes, and Quelthalas became no longer safe. They ordered the gathering of troops and meeting with you, and to give you the best of their ability." She bowed to Tulayan, "We are proud to be able to join your alliance, General Tulayan, I hope our future actions will make up for the losses we have caused to you because of our lateness."
Turayan nodded, and once again he longed for Lossa to be here. Because Lossa knew how to speak in this situation, but he didn't know it himself, so he hoped to get away with it as soon as he could. "Thank you and your people," he finally said. "You are welcome to join the alliance, we will work together to drive the tribe out of this continent, out of you and our homeland, and then we can live in peace and cooperate again."
He glanced around him, Kadega, Aurelia, Sylvanas, Lothema Theron and Kudran Wildhawk, all of whom were trustworthy comrades. He suddenly felt a never-before he had a self, with these people around him, maybe he would become a leader, at least before Lotha came back. Turayan was happy and almost smiled, but his smile suddenly stopped. "Where is Nathanos? Why is he missing?"
Sylvanas looked back and found that the human being who stopped him was really gone.
"Nathanos? He's here?" Aurelia was a little surprised. But seeing the reaction of her sister, she was sure that the human being was here just now, and that the two of them had met.
"Me." Kudland raised one hand and successfully attracted the attention of the people present. "I seemed to see him. Although I didn't know him, when I landed, I saw a human running in that direction. I thought he was desperate." Kudland pointed in a direction.
Kardga was shocked after seeing it. "Hey, that's the direction of a red dragon landing. Where are Nathanos doing what?"
"Red Dragon?" Kudland recalled carefully: "I remembered that you are right. It was the red dragon coming from behind."
"I'll take him back," Sylvanas said, but Aurelia grabbed her. The latter looked at her sister in confusion.
"You must have a good rest and let me go." She nodded to Sylvanas, then signaled to Tulayang, and ran in that direction regardless of whether the other party agreed.
The burning smell and hot heat waves fill the surroundings. Nathanos tried to avoid these as much as possible. The thick smoke made the visibility around them very low.
Kristasa was shot down from the air by a red dragon that was almost the same size as her. Nathanos hoped to find her. After an hour of searching, Nathanos finally heard the movement. There was a faint gasp in front of him.
"Christasa." Nathanos walked out of the forest and came to a clearing, with the red dragon lying in front of it. Only then did humans discover that the clearing was formed when she fell down, and there were crushed trees and a blood stain on the ground.
The red dragon heard someone calling him, opened his eyes slightly and saw Nathanos approaching him.
"It's you?" Her voice was faint, but Nathanos could still hear it clearly.
"You are seriously injured." He squatted down and stroked the Red Dragon's head, as if he was empathetic with her.
"I can't beat Talanistazz. He is the queen's oldest spouse. I didn't expect him to come here too. But he was also seriously injured by me." At this point, Krista coughed violently.
Nathanos felt her tone with blood. "Stop talking, can you still transform? I will become the elf girl you used to look like, I will take you out of here."
The red dragon did not answer, but she still tried. She had to endure the pain on her body and forcefully operated the magic. Her body finally showed a dazzling light, and Nathanos's eyes avoided it. Kristas's mortal form appeared in front of him. Her body was covered with blood-stained scars, and her robe was a little damaged. She had fainted. Nathanos picked her up and prepared to return. A tall figure jumped out.
"Aleria?" Nathanos was a little scared when he saw the elf suddenly appearing. He hoped that Aleria would not have seen the scene just now.
"What are you doing here?" Aurelia looked at him, and then noticed the female elf with a weak breath in his arms. "A survivor?" Aurelia ran to him, and the condition of this "competent" in front of her made her very sad.
"We have to get out of here." Nathanos breathed a sigh of relief, it seemed she didn't notice. "She needs treatment."
Altlank
"You are looking for us, sir?" The speaker was General Haas, the commander of the army of Altlan, standing at the half-open door. Perenold saw other army generals standing behind him.
"Yes. Come in, General." Perenold said, trying to calm his voice. "I just got a report on the next move of the tribe and need to inform you."
He saw Haas and several other generals exchanged a few glances quickly, but they said nothing, and followed him to the impressive map covering the entire wall. It painted the entire Ultraman, with the towns and forts marked in silver, while the Ultraman Castle itself was marked in gold.
"I got a real report," Perenold began, "the tribe is marching towards us." Several generals gasped in surprise. "They obviously chose to cross these mountains to attack the Kingdom of Lordaeron. In this way, they would be able to approach Lordaeron's capital from the north."
"How far are they from us?" Colonel Keferdan asked anxiously. "How many of them have they? What kind of weapons did they bring?" several other generals whispered behind him.
Perenold raised his hand and the military officers calmed down. "I don't know how far they are from us," he replied. "A day or two, or three, will not be more. I don't know how many of them are, but it must be a terrible number." He smiled, although he knew he was weak. "However, that's no longer the question we have to consider."
General Haas stood up straight. "Not we were going to consider, sir?" he asked, his breathing causing his thick grey beard to float up. "But we are part of the alliance, and we have vowed to fight against the tribes with other nations."
"Not anymore." Perenold reminded him that he was sweating, and that his generals had noticed it. "I have reconsidered and decided to give up our role in this war. From now on, Ultralist is no longer part of the league." He took a deep breath.
The generals were all surprised. "Sir, do you mean?" Keferdan asked.
"I made an agreement with the tribe," Perenold replied. "We will not interfere with their march in the mountains, and they guarantee that the Kingdom of Altlan is unscathed."
His generals looked confused, some of them even felt angry or sad. "You let us complicit with the orcs, sir?" Haas asked softly, with a clear disgust in his voice.
"Yes, complicity with the orcs!" Perenod lost his calm and shouted angrily. "Because I want us all to survive!" He let his anger and fear burst out in his words. "Do you know what we are facing? The tribe, the whole tribe, is planning to sweep this mountain range! Through our homeland! Do you know how many of them are? Thousands! Tens of thousands!" Haas nodded reluctantly with the others. "Do you know what these orcs look like? I used to be here now.
I have come into contact with an orc at such a distance. They are extremely huge! They are as tall as trolls, but they are as strong as two trolls! They are muscular and have sharp fangs - the orc I saw, his warhammer needs three people to lift up, but he swings effortlessly like a toy of a child! No one can resist them! Don't you understand? They will kill us all! They have destroyed Stormwind City, and Ultrarank will be their next place to destroy!"
"But the alliance..." Haas began to speak. Perenold smiled resentfully.
"What can the Alliance do?" he asked, "Has the Alliance achieved a real victory? Where are they now? Not here! We established the Alliance to protect their kingdom in this situation, but now the Horde has hit us, where are the Alliance? They have abandoned us, don't you understand?" He knew his voice was approaching hysteria and tried to calm down. "Now is the time for each Kingdom to consider itself," he told the generals as calmly as possible. "I must first consider the interests of UltraLank."
"Yes, but those beasts..." Another general, Tarand, began to speak.
"Very dangerous! Yes." Perenold interrupted him. "But it was not barbaric. I met their chief. He could speak human language! He listened to me and agreed not to attack us, as we did not resist their exchange.
"We... can we trust them?" asked a low-level official Wald. Seeing many people nodding, Perenold breathed a sigh of relief. If they asked this, they had accepted the decision, just doubting whether the tribe would keep their promise.
"We have no choice," he replied slowly. "As long as they want, they can defeat us. If they betray the promise, we are done. But if they stick to it, Altlan will survive. Whatever the price."
"I still don't want this," Haas said stubbornly. "It's equivalent to giving fate to the tribe, and we've already swore to other countries." However, he seemed hesitant. Perenold knew that the general was considering the situation, or the only possibility of their survival.
Perenold said sternly: "You only need to obey the orders. I am the king and I have made the decision. You swear to obey me."
