Chapter 3 Testing

On the baseball field.

While leading the first graders to do warm-up exercises, Hiroki explained the basics of base running.

"When the batter hits the ball, the batter becomes a runner and needs to get on the base bag, otherwise he will be blocked on the running line by the defensive players."

"The most common way to get on base in a baseball game is from home plate to first base."

"Let's test your on-base speed first. I'll give you a demonstration first."

After saying that, Hiroki stood in the batter's box holding a baseball bat and motioned for everyone to take a closer look.

"run!"

The recorder next to him gave the order.

Hiroki immediately threw his baseball bat out of bounds and ran towards first base at full speed.

Halfway through the race, Hiroki turned his head and looked at the infield position. However, Hiroki did not slow down and continued to run forward at full speed.

When he passed the first-base bag, Hiroki put his foot in front of the bag and continued to move forward at full speed.

After passing through the first base bag, about two steps away, Hiroki began to slow down, kept his body in a moving posture, and slowly stopped.

"That's about it." Hongshu said as he walked back.

"Since the goal is just to get to first base, you just have to run to first base with all your strength."

"But it's different if the target is second base."

Hiroki walked back to home plate, took the baseball bat, and said, "This time I will demonstrate how to run second base."

"run!"

The recorder next to him continued to give orders.

Just like when running first base, Hiroki immediately dropped his baseball bat and ran towards first base at full speed.

About halfway between home plate and first base, Hiroki began to prepare to turn. At this time, Hiroki slowly deviated from the base line, and then his left shoulder dropped as he approached the base bag.

I saw him pedaling on the inside of the base bag with his left foot, using the force to eject towards second base. After turning, he accelerated a few steps and ran straight towards second base.

When he was about to approach the second base bag, Hiroki pushed hard with both feet, shifted his body weight backward, moved his left foot forward, and slid sideways toward the second base bag until his left foot stepped on the second base bag.

"It's so fast, senior." Tetsu Nishino said in surprise.

"No, senior, although base running is very standard, the absolute speed is not as fast as it looks visually." Nishino Kazuya explained.

"Because running a base requires stepping on the base and turning a nearly 90-degree turn, even if the distance between the bases is only about 28 meters, it is less than 50 meters to go directly from the batter's box of home plate to second base. But the speed of baseball players

It's definitely not as fast as a sprinter."

"Yeah?"

Tetsu Nishino went to look at the record of Hiroki's running time recorded by the scorer, and sure enough it said "8.24 seconds".

This is a failing result in the 50-meter run, but in Japanese high school baseball, it can be considered a relatively good result. It is above the average level, and most high school students who play baseball have to practice hard to achieve it.

"Okay, okay! It's your turn, first graders. Each of you will be tested twice, once on first base and once on second base. Do you understand?"

Hiroki ordered the first graders to start the test.

"Yes! Got it."

The first graders took turns taking the test.

However, the first graders are not as good as Hiroki. When running second base, they are basically 10 seconds away. After all, stepping on the base and turning have a great influence on the running speed. The level of the first graders is definitely not as good as that of the third grade seniors.

If you are high, you can only rely on hard work in the future.

...

When it was Nishino Kazuya's turn, although he was only in the first grade, his many years of experience in playing baseball made him well aware of the essentials of running bases. Therefore, Nishino Kazuya's performance in running first base was quite good and he could compete with the seniors.

Nishino Kazuya's second base running time was 8.74 seconds. In terms of base running ability alone, his level is enough to start in high school baseball games. The senior members watching from the side also expressed their concern.

Awesome praise.

"Hey, Tetsu, how about it, can I still run the base?" Kazuya Nishino immediately walked up to Tetsu Nishino and said with a smile.

"Okay, okay, you are the best," Nishino Tetsu doesn't know him well yet, he will definitely get the limelight, "I definitely can't outrun you, okay?"

"Ah, no! I almost forgot, Azhe, you used to be in the football club, you must be fast!" Nishino Kazuya wailed.

"That's impossible to say...after all, I haven't run over a base."

It's Nishino Tetsu's turn.

Tetsu Nishino walked to the right batter's box at home plate, did a few squats, and took a deep breath.

The recorder next to him saw it and chuckled.

"Don't be nervous. I'm just recording some data. It's not a formal competition. Just run according to your own ideas. Are you ready?"

"Yeah, senior, I'm ready!"

Tetsu Nishino stepped on the soil with his feet and felt a familiar yet unfamiliar touch.

"It's not the same as a football field." Tetsu Nishino thought in his heart.

"run!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Tetsu Nishino jumped out like a cheetah!

"Da da da da da"

The sound of rapid footsteps.

"So fast!"

"Snapped"

Tetsu Nishino stepped on a first-base bag almost in the blink of an eye!

"Oh oh oh, so fast!"

"No, that first grader is practicing sprinting!"

"too fast!"

"It starts so quickly. The defensive first baseman is under a lot of pressure."

The senior members who were watching were very surprised and started discussing.

"Damn it! That guy Azhe!"

Tetsu Nishino slowly returned to home plate and prepared to run to second base.

The strong and powerful leg muscles gave Tetsu Nishino continuous strength.

"It's so comfortable to run." Tetsu Nishino thought in his heart. He didn't expect that in the eyes of others, he was already from the sprint club.

"run!"

"Da da da da da"

Fast and powerful footsteps.

In an instant, Tetsu Nishino ran to first base, stepped on the inside of the first base bag with his left foot, and used the force to eject towards second base. After turning, he continued to accelerate hard and ran towards second base quickly.

When he was approaching the second base bag, Tetsu Nishino did not slow down until his left foot stepped on the second base bag. He slowly stopped after passing the second base bag.

"Wow!"

"Wow so fast!"

"This is so fast! Have you ever practiced that first grade?"

"Let me see, isn't it? 7.52 seconds!"

"Did you press the stopwatch too fast?!"

"None of us in the third grade ran under 7 seconds, he is only in the first grade!"

"It's amazing! Si Guoyi!"

"Azhe, this bastard, must have done it on purpose!"

Supervisor Higashi Takuji was also very surprised. He looked at the information sheet and said, "Tetsu Nishino, 16 years old, 178cm, 73kg. His physical fitness is really good, and his muscles look very strong."

General Hong Shu also came over and said: "Supervisor, I didn't expect Zhejun to be in such good physical condition. He doesn't look particularly strong, and is rather lean."

"And Zhejun seems to have been very good in the football club before. He plays as a winger or something, so he should have good physical fitness."

Supervisor Higashi Takuji thought for a while and suggested: "I think Tetsu Nishino has a good balance and is very agile. How about letting him play shortstop and a bat?"

"Eh? Supervisor, that's not good. Zhejun wants to be a catcher. It's hard to find a catcher. Supervisor, please don't do it."

Hong Shu was also a little dumbfounded.

"Well, then let's do as he wishes." Supervisor Totoji also agreed with Hiroki's words.

Supervisor Toto added.

"There will be pitching and hitting tests next, and we will see how his talents are in these two areas. In baseball, running fast alone is not enough."
