Chapter 2 - Birthday Presents
…………
Eight years later, outside the Maris Farm, a boy was driving the flock of sheep. He waved his long whip, and his other hand was holding a calf that was licking his neck with his tongue. He could bear such weight, at the age of five. He looked strange and completely inherited the eastern hole of the plane Earth. He was not handsome and had a little bit of beauty. His father thought that his appearance was like this because of the blessing of the holy light. His hair was as black as ink and his feet were wearing brand new horse boots. This was the gift my mother prepared for him. Today was his birthday. I heard that there were even greater surprises waiting for him in the evening, and he was also looking forward to it.
Nathanos Maris, like all children, has his own childlike interests. He likes to stay with the flock, especially to drive the flock to run together, as if a hero is chasing the enemy, he can always find something that makes him happy. The only thing that bothers him is that he often has strange dreams, dreaming of a glowing object in front of him, and there is a group of people fighting. The last thunder sounded, he heard crying and his parents' happy smile. He once asked his father Brid, did his mother give birth to himself because of thunder? The answer he got was that Brid had a loud slap in the face, and the uncle Jonathan next to him was laughing, but he smiled that Brid. Little Nathanos turned around and ran back to the room with grievance and cried for a long time. From then on, he never asked how he was born again, and the strange dreams were buried in his heart forever, but as he grew older, his dreams became more and more real and clear.
"Nathanos, what are you doing? Put the lamb down quickly!"
It was his mother. Nathanos turned around and saw a worried face, plain and plain, wrapped in a headscarf, hugged the sheep and placed it on the ground. The little guy called out and ran away. Nathanos then realized that his clothes were wet and had a stinky smell. Obviously, the sheep did something enough to make his father Brid beat him while he was in a daze. Daphne looked at his son docilely, touched his head, and said, "Go and take a shower in the river, then go and change your clothes, before your father comes back." Nathanos nodded.
In the evening, Uncle Jonathan brought his newlywed wife Sally to the farm for Nathanos' birthday. Like his mother, they prepared gifts. His father was baking bread and turkey in the kitchen, and his mother came out to greet the guests.
"Happy birthday, little Nathanos, has grown up again." Jonathan squinted his eyes and looked at his nephew, Nathanos smiled back. Aunt Sally put a brown leather horse clip on Nathanos, which was her gift.
"This dress must have cost you a lot of money." Daphne said with a frown, and thanked them for her son.
"Just five copper coins," Jonathan replied: "Although Lordaeron's tailor shop is not as good as Dalaran, this dress is specially made for my 'grown' nephew." Jonathan smiled.
"Thank you." Nathanos said softly, and the three present looked surprised. The little boy had never said these two words. Daphne had taught Nathanos to speak, but he didn't say it for the first time until he was three years old. Brad thought that Nathanos had mental problems, but the little boy's reaction was even faster than that of him, an adult.
The atmosphere of the dinner was subtle and harmonious. Jonathan praised Nathanos more than once. He thought the child must be very smart. Bred served the main course and baked the turkey with spices. The mother placed a chicken leg in front of Nathanos and told him that he could put down the knife and fork and eat it directly with his hands.
"Mother, what is the birthday cake?" Nathanos asked. This was his second time speaking today and the second time that shocked his family, but compared to his words, what he said was the most concerned about.
"Where did you hear this, Nathanos?" Jonathan looked at his somewhat dull nephew curiously.
Nathanos shook his head, he didn't know, but every time he fell asleep the day before his birthday, he could always hear the birthday cake in his dreams. Not only him, but even Breed and Daphne didn't know what it was.
"What is he talking about?" Brad pointed at his son with a turkey-cutting knife.
Jonathan thought for a while and replied, "I heard that it was a kind of snack that Lordaeron would use when holding a birthday party. It was made of butter and it was very sweet. It seemed that a few small candles would be placed on it."
Daphne took a breath, "Cream? This thing is more expensive than the riding boots I gave my son. The candle, I heard that another copper coin has increased."
"Those high-ranking people don't care about these candles, my dear. But how could Nathanos hear about birthday cake?" Brid looked at his son, then turned to Jonathan, and his innocent cousin shrugged. "I won't tell him something so luxurious."
The Jonathan family lives in Lordaeron and sells candy for children at the market. When he is free, he likes to inquire about the upper class.
After dinner, his mother Daphne asked Nathanos to sleep early. She closed the bright black gem eyes and kissed him on his forehead. Nathanos was not sleepy. He didn't like to sleep because he could always see or hear strange things in his sleep. These things seemed to have strange eyes for him every time. He didn't like this. Jonathan did not leave in the living room outside the door. In fact, he came here for another purpose, and was discussing with the Brids and his wife. They must be too fascinated, so they couldn't even control their voices. Nathanos heard the movement and carefully lifted the quilt and walked to the door.
"He's too young, Jonathan, Nathanos can't adapt to that kind of environment." Daphne's tone was crying.
"I can understand your love for him, sister-in-law, but have you ever thought about it? Nathanos is eight years old and has no partner to accompany him. What's more, he should go out to know the world. He can't stay in the farm for the rest of his life with cattle and sheep." Jonathan tried his best to persuade him, and his wife Sally comforted the sad Daphne, and finally she nodded. Jonathan looked at Brad again, wanting to ask him what he thought.
"I'll thank you for my son, brother, but can you guarantee that there will be a teacher in Lordaeron who is willing to teach Nathanos? You have also seen it, he doesn't like to talk. Will the teacher and classmates like him?"
Jonathan nodded: "You can be completely relieved. Brad Lordaeron selects some smart children among the civilians every year to raise them, and as long as Nathanos passes the exam a month later, his tuition will be borne by the Kingdom of Lordaeron."
Breed lowered his head and looked at Nathanos' room. He hadn't expected that his son had heard their conversation. Tomorrow, he would leave him. Breed thought Nathanos would definitely not want to, but he had decided that no matter what, Nathanos must not stay in this small farm as Jonathan said.
"Lordalon, Undercity." Nathanos squatted in the corner of the wall, burying his head, murmured.
‘Be prepared, call a few more people and go to the Undercity together. The tribe should contact you, don’t make trouble suddenly and then fight again.’
