Chapter 21 - The Time Argument
…………
Will Aurelia really continue to encircle him? Nathanos cannot help but fall into doubt, but he is no longer Nathanos Maris. In the Forgotten Kingdom, there are only the Withered Ones. Perhaps this is inevitable, but the Forgotten Dead will one day face their relatives and friends. Nathanos is not worried that his people are not ready yet, because when the challenge comes, the Forgotten will not be afraid.
"You said the purpose of the Bronze Dragon is to erase me?"
"You should have existed in this world, but your various actions have caused uncontrollable changes in this world. As the king of time, Nozdom, seeing that the original timeline was completely overturned, he would not sit idly by."
"Yeah!" Nathanos nodded as if he understood, but Mnozdo saw that he was ridiculing Nozdom in his heart. As the king of time, he could predict what would happen in the future than anyone else, but he could only watch without interfering.
"Nathanos..." Mnozdo said the name of the Withered, who had already walked to the conference table in the conference hall, filled with the latest news from all over the world. He did not respond to the King of Eternity, because he knew what the King of Eternity wanted to ask: Should the history that was originally destined to happen?
Mnozdo did not continue to ask, but was waiting for the answer of the wither.
After a long time, Nathanos turned back and said to the Eternal Dragon: "No one can control history! Never!" He picked up a report from Lordaeron, glanced over, and threw it into the brazier. "Man is just a writer of history, and history is just the past. There are many forms of past existence: documents, relics, and even memories of the latter. But it is undeniable that what happened can only become memories in the end? An existence like you who can travel through time may have the ability to correct past mistakes, but do you have that kind of courage? Nozdom did not, because he was not sure whether history changes toward good or bad aspects. And you..." The witherer glanced at Mnozdo, "What you want to change is not the past, but the end of time, the end of history, so you were born."
"It's not like this!" Mnozdo roared, his voice high and dull, as if there was a force that could not be released accumulated in his body. "I appeared because I saw too many people! Medivh, Taresa Foxton, Arthas...them...them...them...them...I had seen them, seeing their future, their death, and the disasters that brought to this world because of them, I could only watch that..." The Eternal Dragon King lowered his head and looked at his hands. For a moment, Nathanos felt that the person standing in front of him was Norzdom, the guardian of time who was about to collapse.
"Can you understand? Those tragedies are in front of you when the scene is about to happen. You know what is going to happen, but you can't stop it." Mnozdo's eyes conveyed to Nathanos his long-standing pain. His kindness did not allow him to abandon those who were destined to be tragic characters, but his duty as the guardian of time forced him to do so. He was just the guardian of time, not the creator.
Obviously, the two contradictory psychology made the King of Time a different existence. Mnozdo was born at the moment when Nozdom saw the ending of time caused by his inaction. The scene of the world being destroyed and the final victory of Deathwings made him begin to actively interfere with time.
"To be honest, I disdain you who can control time." Nathanos said, "Whether you or Norzdom, your power should be used for the present, not to change the past or future." He looked at the vase repaired by Mnozdo and nodded slightly satisfied. "The people who monitor time are sadder than those who are in time, because they knew their ending from the beginning."
"But have you ever thought that if you see what will happen in the next second, maybe you won't be like this?" Mnozdo tried to refute. As soon as he finished speaking, the Withered man stared at him with a look of a fool.
"I really didn't see it," said Nathanos. "So please tell me, if I don't stand here, who will stand here? Is it Aurelia or Sylvanas?"
Mnozdo blinked, and when Nathanos asked this, he realized that he had lost the debate. The Eternal Dragon King has always overlooked a question, that is, have the Forgotten One complained about his destiny? They must have complained, but complaining does not mean regret. Some people are willing to be the undead, because if they don't, someone will replace them, perhaps their family, friends, or even their lover.
Nathanos did not see the future, but he never regretted his choice - to bear the tragic fate that did not belong to him instead of the person who cared in his heart - even if this choice brought him endless disasters.
"You don't want to see whoever is among them, right?"
The withered looked back silently outside the window. The moonlight over Altlan shone the land of the Ice and Snow Kingdom desolate and pale. The Forgotten are each performing their duties, each working hours a day more than the living. Their behavior is in line with the will of their masters - preparing for a war. "Yes, I don't want to see it."
The look of surprise gradually condensed on Mnozdo's face. It seemed that it was the first time he had heard Nathanos admit the secret deep in his heart in person.
"But I'm glad I'm so glad I'm now." Nathanos said with a smile. "If I weren't a Wither, I really didn't know what I should do now."
"So, you know?"
"Yes." The Withered Man put his hands on the window, stroking his hands as if he was playing a game. "Since Nozdom wants my identity to be made public, it's better for me to follow his wishes. Anyway, there are rumors that Gilness can hardly control the spread of the werewolf epidemic, and I can find a chance... to make a grand appearance."
"And what? Let the person who persecuted you pay the price?"
